Freshman Dade Breuker is a brat. Well, an Army brat.
With a father who served for 20 years, Breuker has gone to 11 schools in the past nine years, settling at Shores (so far).
Moving a lot, including homes in North Carolina, Texas and Louisiana, Breuker spent 2011-15 in Fort Hood, Texas, and one notable difference is the significantly hotter weather in Texas.
“Even when Michigan is covered in snow, Texas is still in the high 60s or low 70s,” Breuker said. “(However), I enjoy the snow and the activities that come with the winter in Michigan.”
Because of this, moving has become relatively easy for their family.
“Packing and unpacking boxes is probably the worst part, but it’s not too bad for me anymore,” Breuker said.
Along with the challenges of moving, Breuker said he has acquired skills that will help prepare for his future.
“It’s helped me adapt to different places and make friends quickly, but I’ve also had to say goodbye to them quickly too,” Breuker said. “I do still keep in touch with some great friends I have from Fort Hood.”
Breuker said he hopes to travel to Texas again to visit old friends.
“It would be cool to get in touch with friends I haven’t seen if they’re still living there,” Breuker said.
He said he hopes to continue participating in activities that he joined in Texas, one of those being NHS. While in middle school in Texas, Breuker was part of the Junior National Honor Society.
“Someday, I’d like to join our NHS and continue what I started in Fort Hood,” Breuker said.
