After earning their way to nationals for Business Professionals of America (BPA), three Shores students will be heading to Florida to enjoy the warmth and compete in their events.

Seniors Tyler LaPorte and Gabe Fox and junior Niral Patel will be competing in Orlando from May 10-14.

“I am pretty excited to be able to go to Orlando to compete for my event,” Patel said. “It feels good to know that I worked my way through competition to be able to go across the country and compete at the national level. I know I will meet a lot of cool people nonetheless.”

Patel placed fourth in Personal Financial Management; Fox placed third in Business Spelling and Management/Marketing/Human Resources; and LaPorte placed first in  Intermediate Word Processing at the State Leadership Conference, which was held at the Amway Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids and Davenport University.

“All students that went to state did an amazing job,” adviser Kristin Sailors said. “I always tell my students that Michigan is one of the toughest states competition wise, so if they make it to nationals, they are already the best of the best. We have an incredible group of young men going to nationals, and I have high expectations for them.”

Along with competing, students said they are excited to go to nationals because of its location.

“I’m excited to go to Orlando because it is on Disney property where we stay, and the weather is supposed to be really nice — I mean when is it not — when I’m there,” Patel said. “I’m looking forward to spending my time there.”
