Sophomore Heidi Seested, an exchange student from Denmark, has been dreaming of the opportunity to be an exchange student to the United States since she was a kid.

“I wanted to become an exchange student because when I was little, I lived in Thailand and China,” she said. “In Thailand, my family and I lived in little American communities. Therefore, I got a feel of the American culture, but I had never experienced it in person, so that is why I chose to become an exchange student in the United States.”

Now that she has experienced some of the U.S. culture, she said one of her favorite parts is how everyone has treated her kindly. Additionally, she is enjoying the education because she is not stressed.

“The school system is different than in Denmark,” she said. “I can kind of relax because the grades I get here don’t count back home. (Additionally), I wanted to get my own locker and have the opportunity to experience Prom.”
Seested said her transition was easy coming to Shores, and she has enjoyed it so far.

“(However, I miss) being away from home and missing my own workout machines at home that I do not have access to where I am staying in the United States,” she said.

Lastly, Seested said she just wants to experience new things.
“I am looking forward to Halloween and other fun holidays while I stay here,” she said. “This is because we don’t get to celebrate these in Denmark and I want to experience these events.”
