All juniors gathered in the auditorium on Wednesday, Nov. 1, for an assembly based on life after Shores. Muskegon Opportunity, an organization that is creating a college and career-ready culture, visited Shores and shared a video with the juniors.

This video was based on the next steps juniors need to take toward college. It shared the different places students can go after graduation, such as community college, university, trade school, and military. They also told the juniors what they can receive while there, an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, certificate or license, or career training and service.

After the video educating juniors about their future, with the next steps in mind, the women running the assembly asked students questions about their futures and what jobs they are looking into.

“I liked the assembly because it made me think about college and all of the things coming are way,” junior Shelby Varsalle said. “It informed me about the future and opened my eyes to things I can do that I never thought about.”

However, other students, like junior Diego Stark, said it could have been better.

He said, “I did not enjoy it because I had already known about the things they were talking about. Also, it was not really geared toward me, and I feel like the kids it was geared for were just sitting on their phones and not paying attention.”
