Children in the Shores community were welcomed at the high school Sunday, Dec. 10 for a bit of holiday fun.

The main event was painting on canvases with the artwork taught by volunteer members from Interact, a service club at the high school. The event was free to those who came besides an optional donation which went to Kids Food Basket.

“I feel that it was a great way for parents and children to spend time together and get into the holiday spirit,” said sophomore Erica Pletcher, a member of Interact. “It’s empowering to know that you are giving back while also giving kids a fun time”

A young girl named Donna was one out of many who attended.

“I want to be a fashion designer when I grow up, so I love anything artsy, especially painting,” Donna said.

Not only could children paint a reindeer, they could make ornaments, color, write letters to Santa, and design their own cookie(s) to eat with an arrangement of colored frostings and decorative sprinkles.

“There is blue on my cookie because that’s my favorite color,” said one boy as crumbs of the desert clung closely to his face. “I wish I could make them every day.”
